In addition to their teaching responsibilities, nursing faculty members Barbara Kelly (left),?Wendy Stoelting-Gettelfinger and Cheryl Shore will be seeing patients at the revamped Koval Nursing Center.
The UIndy School of Nursing plans to expand services at its Koval Nursing Center, now that the operation has moved from a small office suite in Martin Hall to a larger space on the lower level of Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
The Koval center opened in 1996 to provide limited services such as?immunizations and health screenings to UIndy employees. The new space ? which includes a reception area, offices, three individual examination rooms and a three-bed multipurpose room ? will function more as a general health clinic for university faculty and staff and their families. (Students will continue to be served at the Student Health Center in Schwitzer.)
Board-certified nurse-practitioners will be on hand at Koval to?treat common illnesses and minor injuries, write prescriptions, conduct and interpret lab tests and perform physical examinations. The center is seeking approval through Anthem to accept insurance payments.
The new space also is more conducive to clinical opportunities for nursing students as well as community health services, such as performing physicals for kids attending camps on campus.
