If you are new or just getting into the glorious hobby of scrapbooking there?s a lot to take in. You have got to get your equipment and tools prepared, get your supplies of paper card and decorations and then bring them all together in one album.
The very first thing you should know about scrapbooks is that there are two different sorts of scrapbooks. Each has their place and advantages and disadvantages.
Ring Bound Scrapbooks
Ring bound scrapbooks are similar to regular ring binder folders, they customarily come in 2 ring formats, however it is possible to get 3 or ones with broader spacing between the rings.
These scrapbooks typically have thicker book spines, meaning you can fit more pages into your scrapbook or have more or thicker levels of decorations on each page. That means you can use, more ribbon, pictures, baubles, charms and layers.
You may also swap or change out any pages you don?t like or include new pages if you come across any more memories or elaborations.
One of the primary advantages is if you make a mess of or screw up a page, you can simply take it out and replace it with another one. This means you can purchase or make your own custom sheets and add them in at absolutely any stage, which is perfect for making your own cheap scrapbooking supplies.
This is nice if you are new to scrapbooking. However , thats not to say only amateurs use ring bound books. They?re used by scrappers of all levels.
Some people hate the general appearance of ring bound albums and instead prefer a solid page bound book.
Post-bound Scrapbooks
Post-bound scrapbooks are like a library book. Here is where the pages themselves are glued onto the books spine. The albums are often sold with a pre-set number of pages with the key difference being that some are just regular pages inside, while others have plastic sleeves or slips to put your pages into.
There are a couple of disadvantages to using these albums. If you make a mistake, you can?t remove the pages easily. Also if you do not have enough space, you can not add more pages and must decide what to keep and what to leave out.
As well as this, the backbones of the book are sometimes thinner than their ring bound counterparts, so you have got to use thinner material and less embellishments or it could end up looking bloated.
Some scrappers prefer these albums as they think that it has a more clean look when they are done properly.
Hopefully this has helped you choose which album type is best for you. In the following article, we will be having a look at the different types of custom decorated albums on offer.
