ALBANY, N.Y. -- The College of St. Rose welcomed new students to its College Experience Program with new barrier-free housing.
The new housing gives students with disabilities an opportunity to experience college both on and off campus. Students will learn how to prepare their own meals, do laundry and master the public transportation system.
"This fits in with our mission. We're just so pleased to be partnered with Living Resources to help bring independent living for the remainder of their lives, not only while they're here at the college, but for the remainder of their lives with people with significant disabilities," said Interim President Margaret Kirwin.
"I like it a lot. It's great for people that want to live independently and learn life skills and things like that," student Bryan Darby said.
The new building features four apartments, two of which are barrier-free. It was part of a joined effort with The College of St. Rose and Living Resources.
