Growing number of Pa. congressmen break with GOP

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ? Five Republican members of Congress from eastern Pennsylvania are breaking party ranks and now say they'd support a U.S. House bill to keep the federal government funded without provisions in it to scale back the sweeping 2010 health care law.

Rep. Jim Gerlach said Wednesday that constituents he's heard from don't want the federal government shut down. Wednesday was the second day of a partial shutdown over House Republican attempts to scale back President Barack Obama's signature health care law as the price to keep the federal government open and running.

On Monday, Rep. Charles Dent broke party ranks by voting against Republican budget bills. Reps. Patrick Meehan, Mike Fitzpatrick and Lou Barletta are also now saying they'd support a funding bill that has no strings attached.
