142nd Open Championship is being held at Scotland's Muirfield Golf Links July 18-21.
This is set to be a big sports betting weekend for golf fans: the 142nd British Open Championship began at eastern Scotland's Muirfield Golf Links on Thursday and continues through to Sunday, when one name will emerge from a long list of possible contenders to win the oldest of the four major tournaments.
The 2013 British Open is the 16th Open Championship to be played at Muirfield. The previous time it was played here, in 2002, South African Ernie Els won his third major championship with a playoff win over Aussies Stuart Appleby and Steve Elkington and a sudden-death playoff win over Frenchman Thomas Levet.
All the biggest names in world golf are here for this tournament. If it proves to be even half as thrilling as the 2002 Open then the fans are in for a treat.
If William Hill Sports gives any indication, there are many legitimate contenders for the title: Their pre-tournament odds had Tiger Woods as 9/1 favorite, followed by Phil Mickelson 14/1, Justin Rose 20/1, Graeme McDowell 22/1, Adam Scott, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy 25/1, and Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia 28/1.
Hill is offering live betting on the British Open throughout the entire four days. Log in to your WH account at any time between now and the end of play Sunday to find updated odds on tournament winner. The Open could shift within a period of one or two holes, which makes British Open in-play betting all the more exciting.
