BELLEFONTE, Pa. - Jerry Sandusky is in jail this morning.
The former Penn State assistant football coach could face the rest of his life in prison after his conviction of 45 counts of sexual abuse of children.
The defense says it will appeal and related investigations are ongoing.
Joe Paterno's family says the "healing is just beginning" but that Sandusky's conviction is "an important milestone." In a statement, the family of the late head coach said their hearts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Sandusky's attorneys say they'll appeal.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly is thanking the accusers who testified, calling them "brave men."
She says the trial was forced on them and that she hopes the verdict "helps these victims heal ... and helps other victims of abuse to come forward."
